Learn More about Lt. Col. Dave Grossman
Slate Magazine once wrote of Lt. Col. Dave Grossman, “Grossman cuts such a heroic, omnicompetent figure, he could have stepped out of a video game.” Few individuals in America embody that description more fully.
Lt. Col. Grossman is a U.S. Army Ranger, paratrooper, and former West Point psychology professor. He holds a Black Belt in Hojutsu—the martial art of the firearm—and has been inducted into the USA Martial Arts Hall of Fame. His distinguished military and academic career has made him one of the foremost authorities on human aggression, violence, and the psychological effects of combat.
A prolific author and researcher, Col. Grossman holds five patents and has written more than a dozen books, including the perennial bestseller On Killing, with over half a million copies sold worldwide, and a New York Times bestselling title co-authored with Glenn Beck. His work is required reading across military, law enforcement, and academic institutions.
Col. Grossman’s research has influenced policy at the highest levels. He has been cited by the President of the United States in a national address and has testified before the U.S. Senate, the U.S. Congress, and numerous state legislatures. He has served as an expert witness and consultant in both state and federal courts.
In the aftermath of some of the nation’s most tragic acts of violence—including the Jonesboro, Paducah, Springfield, Columbine, and Nickel Mines Amish school massacres—Col. Grossman was called upon to help train mental health professionals and assist in counseling and court-related efforts.
His academic contributions include authoring the entry on “Aggression and Violence” for the Oxford Companion to American Military History, multiple entries in the Academic Press Encyclopedia of Violence, Peace and Conflict, and presentations before the American Medical Association, American Psychiatric Association, American Psychological Association, and the American Academy of Pediatrics.
Since retiring from the U.S. Army in 1998, Col. Grossman has traveled full-time as one of the nation’s leading trainers for military units, law enforcement agencies, mental health professionals, corp. security teams, school safety organizations and houses of worship security teams.
Today, Col. Grossman serves as Director of Grossman On Truth, LLC. In the wake of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, he has written and spoken extensively on the evolving terrorist threat, with work published in the Harvard Journal of Law and Public Policy and numerous leading law enforcement journals. He has been recognized as a Life Diplomate by the American Board for Certification in Homeland Security and a Life Member of the American College of Forensic Examiners Institute.
